This (14 week) course explores the study, rehearsal, and public performance of a cappella pop and vocal jazz and related repertoire for mixed voices. Each semester, students will work on new pieces that challenge both technical skills and artistic expression, addressing a range of vocal and interpretive techniques. Students will learn about dynamics, articulation, stylistic interpretation, beatboxing and other related vocal topics. Rehearsal methods will be discussed and practiced, such as sectionals, solo work, and full ensemble sessions. The work accomplished in rehearsals is then showcased during the group's performances. The students will participate in one DVC Showcase at the end of the semester. Other performance opportunities will be discussed as a group, including off-campus college performances, as well as local a cappella festivals. Visual aspects of performance will be discussed, studied, and rehearsed to supplement the ensemble's vocal work.
