Mandarin Chinese Speaking and Conversation

ID : 896
« back to classes page
Learn to speak and understand Mandarin Chinese in twelve introductory courses for students without prior experience.

Throughout the course, students will learn the Echo Method taught by two native Chinese language teachers, both graduated from UC Berkeley and majored in Asian Literature and Cultures. The Echo Method was founded by Shi Jialin, an English professor from the National Taiwan University, which proved to be a very effective method to learn pronunciation.

Besides pronunciation, students will focus on rhyme and rhythm to enhance memory. Chinese characters can be as challenging as gathering scattered grapes; however, students will learn how to hold a bunch of grapes with rhyme and rhythm. Using this strategy, students will remember a group of characters as precisely as taking a bunch of grapes to facilitate comprehension and retention. With this unique approach, students won’t merely memorize individual characters; on the contrary, they grasp more when they learn just one word.

Furthermore, the course gamifies certain Chinese characters to help students deepen their collective retention. By the end of the class, students will form and understand sentences and answer questions in spoken and written Chinese Mandarin satisfactorily.
